On October 25, community members from across the Twin Cities gathered for the fourth annual Black Men’s Legacy Summit, a day dedicated to empowerment, reflection, and building generational wealth and stability for Black families. This year’s summit exceeded expectations, drawing a full house energized by thought-provoking conversations and practical tools for shaping a lasting family legacy.
The highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, whose ability to blend intellectual intensity with witty storytelling captivated the room. Dr. Dyson challenged attendees to look inward—to find personal inspiration, courage, and discipline as the foundation for building their best selves. His message centered on the idea that legacy begins with individual transformation which empowers you to strengthen families and elevate communities.
Throughout the day, attendees also heard from various panels of experts representing top organizations across the Twin Cities. Panelists provided clarity and actionable insights into what it truly means to build, protect, and sustain a family legacy. Topics ranged from estate protection to the importance of life insurance and strategies for preparing future generations to thrive. Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frye, was also able to speak to attendees giving his insight to special programs the city has committed to regarding homeownership and community development.
One of the most impactful moments of the Summit came during a session focused on preparing a will—a topic often overlooked but crucial for safeguarding the assets, values, and intentions individuals hope to pass down. Attendees received concrete first steps to begin their own will-planning process, equipping them with the tools needed to ensure their legacy is not left to chance.
The energy throughout the day was one of pride, purpose, and collective commitment. The Black Men’s Legacy Summit continues to grow not only in attendance but in its impact—shifting mindsets, providing real resources, and inspiring Black men and their families to build futures that honor their past and empower
generations to come.
