Jeffery Robinson is the Senior Program Director at Build Wealth MN, driven by a simple principle: "Because Somebody Did It For Me." He is a proud alumnus of the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he earned his B.A. in Sociology in 1995. His educational journey began when his aunt took him to Ada S. McKinley in the projects of Chicago, IL, to fill out an application for school. It was during his time at the University of Minnesota-Morris that the phrase "Because Somebody Did It For Me" truly took shape for him. While attending, Jeffery co-founded Imani, a student organization established in 1993 to support Black men in graduating from a predominantly white college located 3.5 hours away from the nearest Black community. Before joining Build Wealth, Jeffery worked as a Senior Quality Control Mortgage Underwriter for the secondary market, traveling throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, and even Barcelona, Spain, where he evaluated mortgage-backed securities. His over 20 years of experience in the mortgage industry, analyzing credit, calculating income, and reviewing asset statements, served as excellent preparation for his role at Build Wealth. Jeffery initially joined Build Wealth to seek assistance for himself and his family but stayed on to help others who needed support "because somebody did it for him." His journey with Build Wealth began as a client, and he subsequently became a volunteer, contractor, and Budgeting Coach Manager before being promoted to Senior Program Director. As the Senior Program Director, Jeffery oversees the programs and services offered through the Family Stabilization Plan (FSP). This includes financial education and one-on-one coaching, the Pathways to Increase Employment and Earnings Potential (PEEP), the Rent Smart Wise & Ready Program, and Housing Counseling, which encompasses rental assistance, pre-purchase guidance, post-purchase support, and foreclosure prevention, among others. When he is not analyzing reports, meeting with clients, or working to exceed targeted goals, you can find Jeffery jogging along the beautiful trails of Minneapolis and St. Paul as he prepares for his next marathon—both literally and figuratively.
